Bangladesh table tennis team stranded at Thailand airport for two days

Five members of Bangladesh’s national table tennis team and their coach have been stranded at an airport in Thailand for two days after sudden flooding disrupted flights.

The team was travelling to Japan to take part in the Asian Games when the disruption left them unable to continue their journey.

The stranded delegation members are Ramhimlion Bom, Imrul Kayes Emon, Sonam Sultana Soma, Nowrin Sultana Mahi and Samanta Hossain Tushi, along with coach and federation member Md Mohsinul Alam Jhinu.

Bangladesh delegation manager and federation general secretary Md Saidul Haque Sadi and men’s top player Muhtasin Ahmed Hridoy managed to return home after travelling on different flights.

According to team sources, passengers travelling on Thai Airways have been particularly affected, with the airline and airport authorities struggling to assist travellers amid the flooding.

The stranded players and coach have been left waiting at the airport as uncertainty continues over their return.

The Bangladesh Olympic Association is working to arrange alternative flights to bring the stranded team members back home, according to sources.
