Bangladesh thrash Scotland for sixth win in a row
Bangladesh women’s cricket team secured a record-margin victory after posting their second-highest team total in T20 format, thrashing Scotland by 90 runs in the Super Six stage on January 30.
Having already confirmed qualification for the main round, the side led by Nigar Sultana Jyoti registered six consecutive wins, including four in the group stage and two in Super Six.
Batting first after winning the toss at Tribhuvan Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal, Bangladesh made an aggressive start.
Half-centuries from captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti and Sobhana Mostary powered Bangladesh to 191 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Openers Dilara Akter and Juwairiya Ferdous scored 67 runs in the opening stand, with Dilara scoring 39 off 28 balls and Juwairiya scoring 22. Sharmin Akter Supta added 15 before departing.
Jyoti and Sobhana then added 100 runs for the fourth wicket. Jyoti scored 56 off 35 balls with five fours and three sixes, while Sobhana struck 47 off 23 balls with seven fours and two sixes.
Chasing the target, Scotland struggled from the beginning, losing Darcy Carter to Marufa Akter on the first ball. The Scottish side managed 101 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs.
Pippa Sproul scored the highest for Scotland with 27 runs, while Megan McColl contributed 20.
For Bangladesh, Marufa Akter claimed three wickets and Swarna Akter took two wickets with controlled bowling.
