Bangladesh to play series against Nepal in memory of flood victims

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has agreed to a proposal for the Bangladesh national team to tour Nepal for a three-match T20I series in March 2027. The series will be dedicated to those who lost their lives in Nepal’s recent devastating floods. The three T20Is are scheduled to be played in Kathmandu on March 26, 28 and 30 next year.

The proposal to organise the series was first discussed a few days ago at a meeting between State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque and Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari. On Wednesday, Ambassador Bhandari met BCB President Tamim Iqbal at the board’s office. The meeting also discussed the proposed Bangladesh tour of Nepal and ways to further expand cricketing cooperation between the two countries.

The BCB expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in Nepal’s devastating floods. The idea of dedicating the series to the victims was also discussed. The BCB believes the three-match series could provide an opportunity, during a time of mourning, to bring the people of Bangladesh and Nepal closer through cricket and convey a message of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

The BCB also assured the Nepal Cricket Association of continued support and cooperation for the overall development of cricket in Nepal. This will include reciprocal tours by the men’s and women’s teams, high-performance (HP) programmes, training and technical assistance, as well as other development initiatives that could benefit players and cricket stakeholders in both countries.
