Bangladesh U-20 coach expresses fear for life, safety amid salary delay

Bangladesh Under-20 national football team head coach Gerard Jones has said he is facing financial hardship due to not receiving his salary. The English coach has also expressed concern for his safety and his family's future .

Jones shared his concerns in a Facebook post on Monday, August 10. He said he is worried about his safety and his family, adding that he is constantly having to deal with misunderstandings and unpleasant situations .

The coach alleged that he cannot send money to his family due to not being paid, claiming he currently has no money and cannot send funds for his wife and children's food. Expressing concern for his own safety, Jones said he is "living in fear and terror" . However, he did not provide details on what is causing this fear or what kind of threats he is facing .

Bangladesh's residential camp has been ongoing at the Shamsul Huda Football Academy in Jashore since last month as they prepare for the upcoming AFC Under-20 Asian Cup qualifiers . Jones made his financial and security concerns public on social media during the camp.

Regarding the coach's allegations, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Development Committee Chairman Md Naser Shahriar Zahedi said the full salary had been sent to the coach's account on August 9. As the money was sent via remittance, banking procedures may take some time, and the payment was expected to reach his account by August 10. Zahedi expressed disappointment that the coach went public before receiving the money .

BFF General Secretary Emran Hossain Tushar confirmed that the coach's salary had been deposited as per contract, but noted that transferring money abroad remains the coach's responsibility . The Englishman also raised concerns over banking complications and privacy of his financial data .

It remains unclear why Jones is fearful for his life or what specific unpleasant situations he has encountered . The coach later confirmed receiving the salary, but noted further challenges and complications had arisen that he was not previously made aware of.
