The FIFA international friendly between Bangladesh and Nepal, scheduled for Tuesday (September 9) at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu, has been officially canceled due to ongoing political unrest in Nepal.

The decision came after protests intensified across the country, particularly in the capital, where demonstrators took positions around key locations, including the stadium.

The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) confirmed the cancellation following an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon (September 8).

Earlier in the day, a pre-match press conference was held at the team hotel. However, shortly afterward, the Bangladesh Football Federation's (BFF) media manager announced that the team would not be able to leave the hotel due to safety concerns.

The day’s scheduled training session was also called off.

The protests, largely driven by Nepal’s youth—particularly Generation Z (born between 1997 and 2012)—have erupted in response to widespread allegations of government corruption and the recent banning of 26 social media platforms.

Demonstrations have spread to major cities, including Pokhara, Butwal, and Biratnagar.

Violent clashes have been reported, with 19 people confirmed dead so far.
