Bangladesh win Junior AHF Cup hockey title
Bangladesh have created history by winning the Women's Junior AHF Cup hockey title for the first time, defeating Kazakhstan 2-0 in the final in Muscat, Oman on Saturday, July 18.
Bangladesh were in great rhythm from the start of the final. They had also beaten Kazakhstan 2-1 in the round-robin stage, and repeated that success in the final.
Irene put Bangladesh ahead with a field goal late in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Emma Nadira doubled the lead from a penalty corner. These two goals proved decisive.
In the third quarter, both sides fought evenly but failed to score. Kazakhstan found the net from a penalty corner in the fourth quarter, but the goal was disallowed after a video review, sealing a 2-0 victory for Bangladesh.
This is Bangladesh's highest achievement in women's hockey at the Asian youth level. Since the women's hockey team's journey began in 2019, Bangladesh finished runners-up in the last Junior AHF Cup. This time, they went one step further to claim the trophy.
Bangladesh were dominant throughout the tournament, beating Hong Kong 6-0, Uzbekistan 1-0 and Pakistan 8-0 before defeating Kazakhstan in the final.
