Bangladesh has achieved significant success at the 9th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2026, held in Shenzhen, China. Competing against participants from 57 countries, Bangladesh's Farabid Bin Faisal won a bronze medal. Additionally, Jaif Bin Morshed secured the championship in the inaugural 'IEO Youth Talk' competition, earning the top spot globally.

Furthermore, in recognition of its contributions to expanding economics education, international participation and consistent success, the International Economics Olympiad authorities awarded Bangladesh Economics Olympiad the 'Special International Recognition Award'.

The members of the Bangladesh team were Farabid Bin Faisal (Mastermind English Medium School, Dhanmondi), Jaif Bin Morshed and Fariha Tasnim (Manarat Dhaka International School and College, Gulshan), Pranto Ghosh (Mastermind English Medium School, Dhanmondi) and Faiyad Salehin Ahmed (Scholastica).

It is known that the national team was formed through multiple selection rounds, with over 48,000 registered students participating from across the country. The selected students received a month-long special training under the supervision of the country's leading economists, academics, policymakers and business leaders.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Md Al Amin Parvez, a member of the Executive Board of the International Economics Olympiad and President of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Economics Olympiad. Rafid Abrar, Secretary of the organisation, served as Deputy Leader.

Another important achievement at this year's event was that Bangladesh Economics Olympiad Ambassadors Md Mansurul Haque and Md Al Amin Parvez served on the jury board of the International Business Case Competition.

Congratulating the Bangladesh team on their success, Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, Chairperson of BRAC and Executive Chairman of PPRC, said this achievement is a brilliant reflection of the talent and potential of the country's youth. Such initiatives will play an important role in building future economists, policymakers, entrepreneurs and business leaders through world-class economics education and participation in international competitions.

It may be noted that the Bangladesh Economics Olympiad, organised jointly by Pubali Bank PLC and BRAC Bank, with the cooperation of City Bank, is creating opportunities for the country's talented students to showcase their abilities on the international stage. This year's achievement is another shining milestone in that journey.
