Bangladesh women suffer heavy defeat to Australia
The match went as it was supposed to. Bangladesh women could not stand up to Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
Despite playing the full 20 overs at Headingley, the Bangladesh women's team scored only 77 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The Australian women's team chased down that run and lost only 1 wicket, playing only 9.3 overs.
After losing the toss and opting to bat, the two openers of the Bangladesh women's team, Dilara Akhtar and Juairiya Ferdous, returned to the dressing room within 15 runs. Dilara Akhtar scored a duck off 3 balls and Juairiya, who had won the previous match against the Netherlands by scoring a fifty, was out for 8 runs off 9 balls.
At one stage, the Bangladesh women's team had lost 5 wickets for 27 runs. From there, the team's run crossed 50 with the bat of Ritu Moni and captain Nigar. They put on a partnership for the sixth wicket and scored 32 runs off 52 balls. Nigar scored 27 runs off 47 balls and Ritu scored 16 runs off 26 balls.
Bangladesh women's team, however, did not get all out in the end. However, except Nigar and Ritu, no one could take their personal collection to double figures. Australia women's team did not give Bangladesh any chance in chasing the runs. Beth Moni, who scored 10 runs off 10 balls, was caught by Ritu in the fifth over off Maruf's ball, that's all. Openers Georgia Voll scored 45 not out off 32 balls and Ellyse Perry scored 19 not out off 15 balls to lead the team to victory.
Bangladesh women's team will play their next match against Pakistan on June 20 in the T20 World Cup.
