Bangladesh women suffer record 10-0 defeat to North Korea

Bangladesh’s women suffered their heaviest defeat in international football after being thrashed 10-0 by North Korea in their opening Asian Games group-stage match in Osaka on Monday (September 14).

North Korea dominated from the start at Nagai Stadium, scoring seven times in the first half before adding three more after the break to complete a one-sided victory.

Jon Rong opened the scoring in the sixth minute after an early North Korean goal had been ruled out following a VAR review. She doubled the lead four minutes later before Hwang Yu made it 3-0 in the 12th minute.

Choe Un added two goals in the 18th and 35th minutes, while Kim Kyong struck twice in the 40th and 43rd minutes to send North Korea into halftime with a 7-0 advantage.

North Korea eased off somewhat after the break but still added three more goals as Bangladesh struggled to contain the relentless pressure.

The result marked Bangladesh’s biggest-ever defeat in women’s international football. Maria Manda and her teammates will now look to recover in their next Asian Games group match against South Korea.
