Bangladesh women suffer T-20 series whitewash against Ireland
Ireland Women's team secured a 3-0 series sweep against Bangladesh with a thrilling four-wicket victory in the third and final T20 International at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Chasing down Bangladesh's total of 123/7, Laura Delany held her nerve, finishing unbeaten on 36 off 31 balls to guide Ireland home with just one ball to spare. Delany hit a crucial boundary in the final over, sealing the win after the side needed four runs from the last two balls.
Ireland’s chase got off to a solid start, with openers Amy Hunter (28) and captain Gabi Lewis (21) adding 55 runs for the first wicket. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Orla Prendergast (4/22), kept the pressure on by taking wickets at regular intervals. Despite the setbacks, Delany’s calm composure in the final moments ensured Ireland's victory.
Earlier, Bangladesh, batting first, managed 123/7 in their 20 overs. Sobhana Mostary top-scored with 45, while Sharmin Akhter Supta contributed 34. The pair shared a 71-run stand for the second wicket, but Bangladesh faltered after their dismissals, adding just 16 runs from the remaining four wickets. Prendergast and Amiee Maguire (2/25) were the standout bowlers for Ireland. The win followed victories in the first two T20s by 12 and 47 runs, completing a dominant series sweep for Ireland.
