Bangladesh women thrash Chinese Taipei 7-0 in U-20 Asia Cup opener

Bangladesh made a flying start to the U-20 Women’s Asia Cup Hockey Championship, thrashing Chinese Taipei 7-0 in their opening match on Saturday (September 5).

The Bangladesh side dominated from the opening whistle, maintaining relentless pressure throughout the match in Mokpo of China.

Irene Akter Riya was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

Kona Akter opened the scoring with a superb finish to break the deadlock and give Bangladesh an early lead.

Ema and Irene Akter Riya then added two goals each as Bangladesh continued to overwhelm the Chinese Taipei defence. Irene’s brace was particularly impressive as she played a key role in the team’s dominant attacking display.

Bangladesh stepped up the pressure further in the fourth quarter, with captain Sarika Rimon taking charge. She struck twice in quick succession to complete her brace and seal the emphatic victory.

The seven goals came from Kona Akter, braces by Ema and Irene Akter Riya, and two more from captain Sarika Rimon.

The commanding opening win gives Bangladesh an early boost in confidence as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
