Bangladesh women's team announced for Asia Cup, Asian Games
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the Bangladesh women's national cricket team for the upcoming Asian Games and Women's T20 Asia Cup, both of which will be played in the T20 format. Opener Taj Nehar has been dropped from the squad led by captain Nigar Sultana, making way for Sharmin Sultana's inclusion.
Taj Nehar was part of the squad for the most recent Women's T20 World Cup, scoring 1 in her only match against South Africa. On the other hand, Sharmin Sultana has played 16 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and made her T20 debut against Sri Lanka last May, which remains her only international appearance in this format.
The Women's T20 Asia Cup will kick off on August 28 with a match between Hong Kong and Thailand. In the group stage, Bangladesh will face Indonesia on August 31, Sri Lanka on September 6, and the United Arab Emirates on September 8. All of Bangladesh's group matches will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, starting at 9:30 PM Bangladesh time. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
Following the Asia Cup, the Bangladesh team will participate in the Asian Games. The eight-team tournament will begin directly with the quarterfinal stage. Bangladesh will face China in the quarterfinals on September 17 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. A victory in that match will set up a semifinal clash against either India or Japan.
