Authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have arrested 35 people, including a Bangladeshi national, for allegedly spreading false information and rumors about the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

The detainees were apprehended from Abu Dhabi and other areas while reportedly using social media and various digital platforms to circulate fabricated content about the war.

Other nationals among those arrested include citizens of India, Pakistan, and Nepal.

In a statement on Sunday (March 15), the UAE Attorney General’s office, led by Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, said the detainees had uploaded fabricated videos and misleading posts on social media. Such actions not only threaten social stability but also pose a national security risk.

The arrests followed several days of intensive monitoring of digital platforms, he added.

Under UAE law, spreading rumors or false information is a punishable offense, with penalties including a minimum one-year prison sentence and fines of up to 1,00,000 dirhams if convicted.

Authorities have confirmed that the interrogation of the arrested individuals has already begun.
