Bangladeshi cinematographer Rony nominated at New York Bangla Film Festival

Renowned Bangladeshi cinematographer and filmmaker Sahil Rony has achieved a new milestone on the international stage. He has secured a nomination in the Best Cinematographer category for the movie 'Deyal-er Desh' (The Country of Walls) at the inaugural New York Bangla Film Festival.

Directed by Mishuk Moni, 'Deyal-er Desh' has garnered widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics since its release for its aesthetic imagery, creative use of light and shadow, and visual storytelling. Sahil Rony played a pivotal role in bringing the film’s atmosphere and narrative to life on screen, a contribution that has now earned him this international recognition in New York.

Over his distinguished 23-year career, Sahil Rony has established a distinct identity through his aesthetic and creative approach to cinematography. For his outstanding work in 'Deyal-er Desh', he previously won the Best Cinematographer accolades at the TRAB Media Iconic Awards and the 4th Bangladesh Institute of Film and Arts (BIFA) Awards in 2025.

Holding an advanced degree in cinematography and film production from the Annapurna International School of Film and Media in India, Sahil Rony currently serves as the Assistant General Manager (AGM) of the Broadcast Operations department at One Entertainment (Channel One).

Expressing his joy over the nomination, Sahil Rony said that he is deeply thrilled to be nominated in such an honorable category at the first New York Bangla Film Festival. He noted that capturing this story through the lens was a highly fulfilling experience and extended his heartfelt gratitude to director Mishuk Moni for trusting his work and supporting him throughout the journey.
