Bangladeshi film 'Roid' has taken its biggest international step yet, releasing simultaneously across 31 cities in 20 US states from Friday (June 26).

The film, directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, originally hit Bangladeshi cinemas during Eid ul-Adha and quickly won over both audiences and critics — drawing praise for its storytelling, direction, performances, and cinematography.

Weeks after its domestic release, it continues to screen regularly at multiplexes across the country.

International distributor Bioscope Films said the US release is aimed not only at the Bangladeshi diaspora but also at non-Bengali and international audiences, giving them a chance to experience the film on the big screen.

The two lead roles are played by Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi, with Gazi Rakayet, Ahsabul Yamin Riad and others rounding out the cast — all of whom have drawn strong notices from viewers and reviewers alike.

This is not Roid's first international outing. The film launched its overseas run in Australia on June 5, where it was warmly received by the Bangladeshi community there.

The filmmakers believe this wide US release marks a significant expansion of the film's global footprint, and hope it will help grow the international audience for Bangladeshi cinema as a whole.
