Bangladeshi national held for illegal infiltration in Tripura
A Bangladeshi national has been arrested along with two Indian accomplices for illegal entry and human trafficking in Tripura. They have been sent to the Khowai district court in Tripura, and the police have also applied for their remand.
The arrested Bangladeshi, Neel Das (34), is facing charges under the Foreigners Act and the Human Trafficking Act filed by the police at Khowai police station. The two Indian nationals have also been accused in the human trafficking case.
On Wednesday (October 30), Neel, a resident of Narsingdi, and the two Indian nationals were handed over to the police by the Border Security Force (BSF) after being detained at the Khowai border.
A police officer from Khowai stated that Neel was caught by the BSF while attempting to illegally cross the India-Bangladesh international border with the help of Indian traffickers.
He also mentioned that all three have been presented in the local court on Thursday (October 31) with an application for further interrogation.
State police statistics indicate that up until September 30 of this year, 239 Bangladeshis and 18 Rohingyas, totaling 257 illegal immigrants, have been arrested in Tripura. Police have also arrested 54 Indian traffickers for facilitating the crossing of international borders for foreign nationals.
A BSF officer in Tripura noted that in the past nine months, they have arrested 172 individuals under drug trafficking and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They seized 17,500 narcotic tablets, 3,254 kg of marijuana, 8,411 bottles of Phensidyl, and 314 grams of heroin, along with several other banned substances.
The BSF has increased surveillance along the Tripura border to prevent illegal immigration, he added.
