Bangladesh-India relations completely positive: Dinesh Trivedi

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has described the overall state of Bangladesh-India relations as "completely positive". He also expressed hope that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to India will take place at a mutually convenient time for both countries.

The Indian High Commissioner made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, September 29. Earlier, he held a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir.

The High Commissioner said, "I say again, our invitation is open. I do not think there is any need for haste. Everything is very positive. But we must give it the proper time."

The meeting between the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and the High Commissioner discussed various issues of mutual interest. The State Minister highlighted Bangladesh's commitment to working with India on issues of mutual interest and for the welfare of the people of both countries, based on farsightedness and mutual respect.

On the other hand, Trivedi expressed hope that the political leadership of the two countries will find a mutually convenient time for the next communication. He said whenever the Prime Ministers of the two countries consider it convenient for themselves, the matter will move forward. They are very confident about this.

Noting that there is no question of anything negative, Trivedi said, "There is no such question. I am positive, the State Minister is positive and the people of Bangladesh are also positive. Everything is possible."

Additionally, when asked about the current state of bilateral relations, the Indian High Commissioner said both countries have political obligations. At the same time, he noted that "work is moving forward."

Referring to his conversation with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, the Indian High Commissioner said a good relationship has developed with him, and he described Humayun Kabir as very principled, extremely clear and open.

Trivedi also commented that their discussions were open and positive. He said it was mainly a courtesy meeting and an opportunity to extend congratulations and greetings.

He said, "It was entirely a courtesy meeting, on behalf of the High Commission, on behalf of India, I am happy to have been able to congratulate him. At the same time, through him, I also conveyed my greetings to the Prime Minister."

Referring to the Prime Minister's recent visit to New York, he said, "He had excellent meetings in New York."

The meeting discussed bilateral issues, various regional and international matters and the recently concluded 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Meanwhile, last week India again said it wants to take its relations with Bangladesh forward in a positive, constructive and farsighted manner. The country also expressed interest in discussing all bilateral issues between the two countries.

Recently, in response to a question on relations between the two countries at a press conference in New Delhi, spokesperson of the country's Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal said India wants a positive, constructive and farsighted relationship with Bangladesh.

The spokesperson also said India is ready to discuss all bilateral issues with Bangladesh through the existing framework.

Jaiswal said, "Our goal is to take this relationship forward in a positive direction, a constructive direction and in a farsighted manner."
