Bangladesh–New Zealand T20 match in doubt as rain delays toss
Heavy rain in Chattogram disrupted proceedings of the second T20 International between Bangladesh and New Zealand, forcing officials to delay the toss and casting uncertainty over the match.
The game was scheduled to begin at 2:00pm at the Bir Shrestho Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, with the toss set for 1:30pm. However, persistent rain and gusty winds from midday left the ground under covers and made play impossible on time.
Continuous showers began shortly after noon and intensified through the afternoon, with the outfield and pitch remaining unplayable despite ground staff’s efforts.
Match officials said they would wait until 5:00pm for conditions to improve. If the rain subsides, play could still begin with a reduced-overs format, given the stadium’s drainage system. However, a complete washout remains a possibility if conditions do not improve.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Chattogram is expected to experience heavy rain with thunderstorms and a 70–90% chance of precipitation.
Bangladesh entered the match aiming to seal the series after a strong win in the first T20, while New Zealand were looking to level the contest.
