Bangladesh-NZ 2nd T20 abandoned in rain
The rain was such that even if you waited for half an hour, the game would not have been possible to start. So after waiting for 2 hours and 19 minutes, without further delay, the decision was displayed on the big screen of the Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium — 'Match abandoned due to rain.'
Thousands of spectators were still waiting in the gallery despite the rain, hoping for the start of the Bangladesh-New Zealand second T20. Seeing Bangladesh's excellent performance in the previous match, many might have thought that they would witness the series win today. That did not happen.
Bangladesh could have secured the series by winning the first T20 in Chittagong today. With the match abandoned, there is no longer any possibility of New Zealand winning the series, and Bangladesh will not lose the series either. If New Zealand wins the last T20 on May 2 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, New Zealand can at most draw 1-1. And if Bangladesh wins, the series will also go to their home team 2-0.
Chattogram was not left out of the heavy rains that began across the country the day before yesterday. After the rain all day yesterday, there was a break this morning, but it started pouring down again around 10:30. The match was supposed to start at 2:00pm. The toss was not held due to the rain. Waiting for the rain to stop, the overs started at 3:10pm and the match was abandoned at 4:19pm.
Chattogram spectators returned home with relief news even though they could not watch the game. The BCB said that the spectators will get a refund for the ticket money for this match.
