Bank officer found dead in New Market women’s hostel
Dhaka Police recovered the body of Ria Akter Shanta, 30, from a government-run working women’s hostel in New Market, Dhaka. Ria was an employee of Agrani Bank.
On Sunday afternoon, June 15, at around 4 PM, Ria was found unconscious in her room and was immediately taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Sub-Inspector Hosni Mobarak of New Market Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that Ria was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room. Police were alerted in the afternoon and rushed to the scene.
Ria worked at the Dohar branch of Agrani Bank. The cause of her death remains unclear, and an investigation is ongoing. She was originally from Palashpur village in Barisal Sadar. Her father is Jahangir Hossain Khandakar, and her husband is Sabbir Hossain. Authorities have informed her family.
The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
