Banks remain open today to ease election transactions

Bangladesh Bank has instructed all scheduled banks to operate on Saturday (December 27) to support election-related activities ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The decision, communicated through a circular on 24 December, was taken following a request from the Election Commission.

The measure is intended to facilitate financial transactions required for nomination submissions, including bank drafts, pay orders, and treasury challans.

The EC noted that an extended holiday period could have disrupted the nomination process, with the final submission date falling on 29 December. Bank operations on Saturday are expected to ease transaction pressure and ensure compliance with election timelines.

Polling is scheduled for 12 February 2026, with campaigning set to begin on 22 January.
