Ahead of the planned ‘lockdown’ on November 13, leaders of the banned Chhatra League reportedly locked the main gates of at least five Dhaka University buildings in the early hours of Wednesday (November 12).

The buildings locked include the Faculty of Fine Arts, Institute of Education and Research (IER), Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, Karzon Hall gate, and the Science Building.

Mazharul Kabir Shayan, president of the banned Dhaka University Chhatra League unit, shared photos of the locked buildings on Facebook, urging supporters to “make the lockdown successful.”

The post was further shared by Jubo League central committee member H M Al Amin Ahmed.

DU Assistant Proctor Dr. Muhammad Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident, saying the locks were removed in the morning and additional security measures have been implemented.

The lockdown programme was announced by banned Chhatra League and other Awami League-affiliated organisations, following which 14 platoons of BGB were deployed in Dhaka and surrounding areas to prevent violence and ensure public safety.
