Bars and Patenga-Parki Beach to remain closed on 31st Night

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued several restrictions in Chattogram Metropolitan City on the occasion of the 31st Night and the English New Year 2026 celebrations.

These instructions were given in a public notice signed by Police Commissioner Haseeb Aziz on Monday (December 29).

It states that on the occasion of the 2025 New Year's Eve and the 2026 New Year celebrations, no meetings, gatherings, mass gatherings, dancing and singing using loud sound systems, cultural programs, DJ parties, rallies or processions will be held on roads, open spaces, rooftops or any other public place without permission.

In addition, any kind of fireworks and firecrackers and flying lanterns has been completely banned in the metropolitan area.

The directive further states that all bars and liquor shops in the Metropolitan Area will remain closed from 6pm on December 31 to 6pm on January 1. At the same time, carrying and using all types of domestic weapons, swords, spears, daggers, sticks and explosives, including licensed firearms, will be prohibited in residential hotels, restaurants, public gathering places and festival venues.

For the sake of security, staying in the Patenga Sea Beach and Parki Beach areas has also been prohibited from 6pm on December 31 to 6pm on January 1.

The public notice also instructs people to refrain from driving cars and motorcycles at reckless speeds, honking loudly, moving while intoxicated, activities against moral values, any kind of harassment or eve-teasing of women and other illegal activities.

The CMP said that strict legal action will be taken against those concerned if these instructions are violated.
