Bayern Munich made a historic start to their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a resounding 10-0 victory over Auckland City at the TQL Stadium in Oahu on Sunday night (June 15).

The German champions deliver the largest winning margin ever recorded in the tournament’s history.

The previous record for most goals scored in a single Club World Cup match was six, set by Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal in their 6-1 win over Al Jazira in 2021. Bayern’s dominant display shattered that mark, underlining their strength and ambition early in the competition.

Bayern were ruthless from the outset, taking a 6-0 lead by halftime. They added four more in the second half, overwhelming the New Zealand club with relentless attacking play. Young winger Jamal Musiala came off the bench to score a hat-trick in the 67th, 73rd, and 84th minutes. Kingsley Coman, Michel Olise, and Thomas Müller each netted a brace, while Sacha Boey added one goal.

Despite the historic win, it does not stand as Bayern’s biggest-ever victory. That record remains their 16-1 triumph over Waldburg in the German Cup in 1997.

Star forward Harry Kane featured in the match but did not get on the scoresheet. Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying: “We approached the match with the seriousness it deserved. It’s a strong start, but we’re aware that tougher challenges lie ahead.”

Elsewhere in the tournament, French side Paris Saint-Germain defeated Atletico Madrid 4-0, Brazilian club Botafogo secured a 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders, and Palmeiras were held to a goalless draw by FC Porto.
