The tradition of awarding cars as recognition for individual achievements in Bangladesh cricket, once highly popular, is making a comeback after a long hiatus. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that the best cricketer of the upcoming ODI and T20 series against Australia will be awarded a car.

The BCB signed an agreement with Chinese automobile brand 'Chery' at the Mirpur Stadium on Tuesday, May 12. BCB ad-hoc committee chief Tamim Iqbal was present at the ceremony.

"The best performer of the Bangladesh team in the upcoming Australia series will be awarded a car by Chery. This is a very positive initiative for the BCB," Tamim said.

The last time a car was awarded in an international series in Bangladesh cricket was in 2005, when Nafees Iqbal received a car for his role in the historic Test series win against Zimbabwe. Recalling that moment, Tamim said his elder brother Nafees had received it. "Almost 20 years later, the practice is returning, which will further motivate the cricketers."

Bangladesh's campaign against Australia begins on June 9. The three ODIs will be held at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on June 9, 11 and 14. The three T20 matches will then be held at the Flight Lieutenant Birsreshtha Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on June 17, 19 and 21.
