The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has honoured former national team pacer Rubel Hossain with a formal farewell, recognising his contributions to Bangladesh cricket over a 12-year international career.

The ceremony was held on Monday (April 20) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium ahead of the second ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal and board director Rafiqul Islam Babu presented Rubel and his son with a commemorative crest and framed jerseys from all three formats.

Rubel, who announced his retirement from international cricket via Facebook on April 15, expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh Cricket Board for organising the farewell ceremony and thanked the board president for personally informing him about the tribute.

The right-arm pacer also thanked his family, coaches, ground staff, and everyone who supported his journey throughout his career.

He also gave special credit to coach Sarwar Imran for playing a key role in his rise from the Pacers Hunt programme to the national team.

Rubel made his international debut in 2009 and represented Bangladesh for 12 years, taking a total of 193 wickets across all formats. In recent years, he had been out of the national setup, and with limited chances of a return, he eventually decided to retire from international cricket.
