Amid widespread discussion about the national election, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election had largely faded from public attention. Recently, there were rumours that an ad hoc committee could be formed instead of an election, keeping the current president Aminul Islam Bulbul in position permanently. However, these rumours were dismissed during a meeting in Sylhet, where it was decided that the election will take place in the first week of October.

A BCB director confirmed the matter to the media on Monday (September 1).

Earlier, on August 24, the Dhaka Cricket Club Organisers' Association, representing Dhaka clubs, had protested over the election issue in Mirpur.

In this context, former captain Tamim Iqbal announced his candidacy, which has further heightened the excitement surrounding the election.

Meanwhile, at 2:00 pm on Monday, the BCB board began a meeting at a five-star hotel in Sylhet. The upcoming BCB election was the main agenda, along with discussions on the Dhaka League and BPL match-fixing incidents.

According to Article 15.1 of the BCB constitution, the tenure of the executive committee is four years from its first meeting. The last BCB election was held on October 6, 2021, and the newly elected board held its first meeting the following day. As per the constitution, the current executive committee must complete the next election by October 7, 2025.

Under the election process, 30 days before the election, the BCB Chief Executive Officer, under the direction of the president, will issue a notice and call for nominations of councillors to form the next general council in accordance with Articles 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3 of the constitution.
