The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed regret to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) over controversial remarks made by BCB director Asif Akbar about football and footballers during a cricket conference on November 9.

BFF President Tabith Awal had formally protested the comments and sent a letter seeking clarification from BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul.

The BCB responded four days later, and Tabith has confirmed receiving the reply.

In the letter signed by the BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, the board clarified that Asif gave the remarks not as a BCB director but as a district councillor.

It stated that his comments stemmed from long-standing frustration regarding cricket activities and field access in his district.

The BCB stressed that Asif’s remarks do not reflect the board’s position, noting: “An individual’s opinion can never represent the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The comments made at the conference were entirely his personal views.”

At the end of the letter, the BCB president expressed regret, saying he was “sincerely sorry” if the remarks caused hurt or confusion within the football community or among its supporters.
