BCB in talks with government to host India series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has initiated communication with the government to resolve uncertainties surrounding the hosting of the ODI and T20I series against the Indian cricket team, scheduled for late August. BCB President Tamim Iqbal has taken the initiative to seek government-level cooperation to ensure the series is held as planned.

According to a Cricbuzz report, BCB President Tamim Iqbal and board's Security Committee Chairman Saeed Ibrahim met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office on Thursday. The meeting discussed various issues related to the India tour and the prospects of hosting the series.

It is learned that as India is yet to provide formal and final confirmation for the tour, the BCB has requested increased communication at the government level between the two countries. The board hopes that coordination at the government level will resolve the uncertainties surrounding the series.

The series was originally scheduled for 2024. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed the tour twice for various reasons. According to the latest schedule, India are expected to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh in late August this year.

Earlier, on July 29, BCB President Tamim Iqbal expressed optimism about hosting the series but acknowledged that the matter does not depend solely on the BCB's decision. According to him, some important issues depend on the oversight and coordination of relevant government departments.

Meanwhile, cricket fans of both countries are also looking forward to the much-awaited series. If a bilateral series between Bangladesh and India takes place after a long time, it is expected to generate widespread interest in the cricketing arena.
