BCB plans February DPL, boosts club funding by Tk 10 lakh

The new season of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) is scheduled to begin on February 17, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) planning to increase financial support for participating clubs.

The country’s premier domestic 50-over competition is expected to run for nearly seven weeks, with the final planned for April 7. The schedule, however, has yet to receive final approval and could still change.

A source at the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) said the board wants to stage the tournament within the planned window after last season’s disruption, when clubs boycotted the league over allegations of irregularities. The competition was eventually held as a single-leg tournament following a lengthy delay.

The DPL is traditionally played in April and May, but the BCB is now looking to avoid a repeat of last season’s uncertainty by holding the competition earlier.

The board also plans to provide lunch for players during match days, continuing a facility introduced last season. Matches are expected to be spread across five venues to help complete the tournament on schedule.

The BCB is also planning to raise the participation allowance for each club from Tk 15 lakh to Tk 25 lakh, an increase of Tk 10 lakh.

The higher allocation is aimed at strengthening clubs financially and supporting a more sustainable domestic cricket structure, while the earlier scheduling is expected to help provide greater certainty for teams and players.
