BCB raises salaries of women cricketers
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has increased the salaries of women cricketers. The decision was made at the BCB board of directors meeting held in Mirpur yesterday. Salaries for players such as Nigar Sultana Joty and Sharmin Akhter Supta will increase by 35 percent.
Following a seven-and-a-half-hour-long meeting, BCB chairman of the Media and Communications Committee, Amjad Hossain, confirmed that the revised salaries will take effect from July 1, 2026.
Under the new structure, cricketers in grade ‘A’ will now receive Tk 160,000 per month, up from Tk 120,000. Those in grade ‘B’ will receive Tk 135,000, compared to the previous Tk 100,000. Grade ‘C’ salaries have been raised from Tk 70,000 to Tk 95,000, while grade ‘D’ players will now earn Tk 80,000 instead of Tk 60,000.
Along with the pay rise, new bonus provisions have been introduced. The captain and vice-captain of the national team will receive additional payments of Tk 30,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively. Amjad Hossain told reporters, “You have already heard that the daily allowance for women cricketers has been increased from US$50 to US$75, and the tour fee from US$25 to US$50. These were approved in the board meeting.”
This means the daily allowance has risen from Tk 6,102 to Tk 9,153, while the tour fee has gone up from Tk 3,051 to Tk 6,102.
The Bangladesh women’s cricket team recently returned from the Women’s ODI World Cup held in India, finishing seventh out of eight teams. Joty’s side managed just one win from seven matches, with one match abandoned due to rain. Despite having the same three points as Pakistan, Bangladesh finished above them on net run rate. The tournament concluded with India defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.
