BCB relieves Nazmul Islam as finance committee chief, Aminul takes charge
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) relieved M Nazmul Islam from his post as chairman of the Finance Committee, following an ultimatum from players over his controversial remarks. BCB President Aminul Islam will serve as acting chairman until further notice.
The announcement came via a BCB press release in the afternoon on Thursday (January 15).
The move follows a protest by the players’ body, the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), which had demanded Nazmul’s resignation and threatened to boycott the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in response to his comments.
Although a deadline was set for his resignation, Nazmul did not step down. In protest, players boycotted a BPL match that began at 1:00 pm on Wednesday. Later in a press conference, the players reiterated their demand for his resignation and called on the board to issue a formal decision within 48 hours.
Shortly afterward, the BCB announced Nazmul’s removal from the Finance Committee post. The board’s statement cited a review of recent events and the organisation’s best interests as reasons for the decision, noting it was made under the powers granted to the president under Article 31 of the BCB constitution.
Until a new appointment is made, BCB President Aminul Islam will assume the responsibilities of the Finance Committee chief.
The board emphasised that “the interests of the players remain the top priority” and expressed hope that all players will continue to demonstrate professionalism and commitment, ensuring their participation in the BPL and supporting the development of cricket in Bangladesh.
