BCB set to appoint Syed Rasel as HP bowling coach

Former Bangladesh pacer Syed Rasel is set to join the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) High Performance (HP) programme as a bowling coach, with the board having reached an in-principle decision to appoint him.

HP chairman Shanian Taneem confirmed the development on Friday (September 4), saying Rasel could formally join the programme as early as this week.

The appointment is intended to fill a coaching gap created after Talha Zubair moved to the national team. West Indies former pacer Corey Collymore has been working as the HP programme’s overseas pace-bowling coach for more than two years.

Taneem said having a local coach work alongside Collymore would strengthen the programme and allow the board to make better use of Rasel’s experience.

“Talha bhai’s move to the national team created a vacancy. It would be beneficial to have a local coach working with Collymore. Syed Rasel has been involved in cricket for a long time, and we want to utilise his experience,” Taneem said.

Rasel was recently dropped from the coaching panel for the National Cricket League and reacted angrily to the decision. Despite losing his first-class coaching role, he is now in line for a position with the national cricket board.

Commenting on this matter, Rasel said the BCB had contacted him about the HP role and asked whether he would be available to work with the programme.

“I was asked whether I could work with the HP programme. I said I could,” he said.
