BCB takes helm as Chattogram Royals relinquish ownership
Just hours before the 12th Bangladesh Premier League kicks off, Chattogram Royals have handed over team ownership due to financial and management hurdles, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stepping in to keep the franchise in play.
The development was confirmed by BPL Governing Council Member Secretary and BCB Director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, while BCB Media Committee Chairman Amjad Hossain also verified the information.
The Royals, who made headlines by signing opener Naeem Sheikh for a record BDT 1.1 crore, informed the BPL governing council Thursday morning (December 25) that they could no longer manage the team.
BCB quickly assumed control and moved to rebuild the squad.
Former national captain Habibul Bashar Sumon is now the team director, while seasoned coach Mizanur Rahman Babul takes the helm as head coach.
