BCCI appoints Subhadeep Ghosh as new fielding coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach of the Indian men's cricket team, replacing T. Dilip, whose contract was not renewed following the expiry of his latest tenure.

Ghosh is set to begin his role with the national team during India's upcoming two-Test tour of Sri Lanka, marking his first assignment with the senior men's side.

The 57-year-old is a familiar figure in Indian cricket, having previously served as fielding coach of the India women's team for nearly two years. During his tenure, he was part of the support staff at the 2022 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup and the 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

His coaching résumé also includes stints with India A and the Assam senior team, while his playing career featured 17 first-class and 17 List A matches, representing Assam and Railways in domestic cricket.

Ghosh replaces T. Dilip, who joined India's coaching staff in 2021 and played a key role in raising the team's fielding standards. Initially appointed under former head coach Rahul Dravid, Dilip retained his position after Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach.

The BCCI had extended Dilip's contract for another year ahead of India's tour of England in 2025. However, the board has now opted not to renew his deal following its expiry.

India's coaching setup has also seen another change, with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate stepping down after completing his two-year contract. The former Netherlands international has returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he will serve as the franchise's Head of Cricket Strategy.

India will begin their Test series against Sri Lanka on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium, with the second and final Test scheduled to start on August 23 in Colombo.

The Sri Lanka series will mark Ghosh's first major assignment as India's fielding coach, with expectations high as he takes charge of one of the world's leading cricket teams.
