Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla has congratulated Tamim Iqbal on his appointment as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

In a tweet, Shukla wrote, “Congratulations to Tamim Iqbal for becoming pesident of Bangladesh Cricket Board. His leadership as former cricketer will enhance the prospects of cricket in his country and overseas.”

The appointment follows an independent inquiry by the National Sports Council (NSC) that identified irregularities in the latest BCB elections. Acting on the committee’s recommendations, the NSC dissolved the previous BCB committee led by Aminul Islam Bulbul and formed an ad-hoc committee with Tamim Iqbal as president.

Other members of the ad-hoc committee include Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfel Khasru, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Athar Ali Khan, and Tanzil Chowdhury, with former director Fahim Sinha also included.

The committee’s tenure is set for three months, during which BCB elections will be held, after which the newly elected board will assume control, NSC Director Aminul Ehsan said during a press briefing.

Meanwhile, former BCB president Bulbul has challenged the legality of the ad-hoc committee, claiming the committee was formed through government intervention.

He has reportedly sought ICC intervention to prevent the ad-hoc committee from functioning.
