Benapole port to remain closed for seven days during Eid-ul-Azha
Import and export activities at Benapole Land Port, the country’s largest and busiest land port, will remain suspended for seven consecutive days during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
According to port authorities, all import-export operations, customs activities, and cargo handling services will remain closed from Monday, May 25, to Sunday, May 31.
However, passport holders travelling between Bangladesh and India will be able to move normally through the border during this period.
Confirming the matter, Benapole C&F Agents Staff Association General Secretary Badruzzaman Bani said the decision was taken following discussions between traders and stakeholders from both countries ahead of the extended Eid holidays.
From Monday onward, cargo transportation between Benapole and India’s Petrapole port will effectively remain halted, meaning no goods-laden trucks will be allowed to enter or leave the port during the suspension period.
Authorities said normal import-export activities and cargo clearance operations will resume from the morning of June 1.
Officials added that customs, port offices, and most business establishments typically remain on holiday during Eid, while many importers also leave for their hometowns, resulting in lower cargo clearance demand during the festive period.
Port sources said the temporary suspension was coordinated in line with the government-declared Eid holidays, although limited customs operations may continue except on Eid day to handle emergency requirements if necessary.
