BFF elections underway
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is holding its elections today, marking the first significant sporting election since the interim government took charge.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) began at 11.00am and will continue until 1.00pm, with voting scheduled from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.
Key candidates for the presidential position include Tabith Awal and AFM Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, while Imrul Hasan is the sole candidate for Senior Vice President. Multiple nominations have been submitted for the Vice President role, with candidates such as Md. Nasser Shahriar Zahedi, Fahad Mohammad Ahmed Karim, and Md. Wahid Uddin Chowdhury (Happy) in the running.
For the general member positions, a diverse group of candidates has submitted nominations, including ANM Aminul Haque Mamun, Amirul Islam (Babu), Imtiaz Hamid (Green), AKM Nuruzzaman, ABM Manjurul Alam Dulal, Kamrul Hasan Hilton, Khandkar Rakibul Islam, Jasimuddin Khan Khosru have submitted nomination papers for the post of ordinary members. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Tipu Sultan, Tasmia Rejoana, Delwar Hossain, Bijan Barua, Manas Chandra Das (Dhalu), Mahfuza Akhtar (Kiran), Mahmuda Khatun (Aditi), Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Md. Amer Khan, Md. Iqbal Hasan (Johnny), Md. Iqbal Hossain, Md. Yakub Ali, Md. Ekhlas Uddin, Md. Golam Gauch, Md. Chaid Hasan Kanan, Md. Manjurul Karim, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Md. Mahi Uddin Ahmad (Salim), Md. Riyaz Uddin, Md. Shahadat Hossain, Md. Shaheen Hasan, Md. Safiqul Izam Bhuiyan, Md. Saifur Rahman Moni, Roshan Akhter Haider (Daisy Zafar), Shakeel Mahmud Chowdhury, Satyajit Das Rupu, Sakhawat Hossain Bhuiyan (Shaheen), Syed Muhammad Shahidul Islam..
A total of 133 voters are participating in this election, comprising representatives from district and divisional football associations (66), BPL (10), BCL (10), women's league (4), universities (6), education boards (5), various divisions (34), and three from others.
In their remarks, candidates expressed optimism about the elections.
Tabith Awal said, "I am confident. I am getting enough response from councilors. If elected, I want to work for football with whoever comes."
Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury said, "I have a strong background in planning and experience as a football coach. I am well-versed in the constitutions of BFF and district levels. My aims to keep politics out of sports and create a more focused environment for the game. I'm feeling optimistic about my chances of winning."
Vice-presidential candidate Nasser Shahriar Zahedi said, "This election feels festive, and we have a strong bond among candidates. Regardless of the outcome, everyone will be welcomed into the federation. I’m confident in my chances with the strong delegates' support."
The outcome of today’s elections will play a crucial role in shaping the future of football in Bangladesh.
