'Bhooter Bhabishyat' director Anik Dutta dies after falling from roof
National Award-winning Bengali film director Anik Dutta has died while undergoing treatment after falling from the roof of his Kolkata residence. He was taken to a hospital near Dhakuria in critical condition, but could not be saved. The sudden death of the veteran filmmaker has cast a pall of mourning over Bengali cinema lovers.
According to reports, Anik Dutta fell from the roof of his home in Hindustan Park on Wednesday, May 27. He had reportedly been suffering from respiratory problems for a long time. He was rushed to a nearby hospital after the fall but succumbed to his injuries.
Anik Dutta made his directorial debut in 2012 with 'Bhooter Bhabishyat'. The film, starring Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Parambrata Chatterjee, Swastika Mukherjee, Mir Afsar Ali and Shashwata Chatterjee, was widely praised for its unique blend of horror with political and social satire. Many still consider it a landmark in Bengali cinema.
He later directed 'Aprajito' starring Jitu Kamal, which received widespread recognition and was a box office success.
Until his death, Anik Dutta was reportedly busy working on 'Aprajito 2'. His last released film was 'Joto Kando Kolkatatei', starring Abir Chatterjee, Kazi Naushaba Ahmed and Dulal Lahiri, which was released in September last year.
