Bipasha Basu set to return to acting after 6-year hiatus
Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is set to return to acting after a lengthy break, appearing in a new web series nearly six years after her last major screen project. The series is being made for Amazon Prime Video and directed by acclaimed Indian filmmaker Hansal Mehta. Its title and release date have yet to be announced.
According to Gulf News, Basu will star alongside Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa. The screenplay has been jointly written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakkar, while Praveleen Sandhu is producing the series under her banner, Almighty Motion Picture.
The story revolves around the expansion of organised crime and the drug trade. Set in a small town that gradually becomes one of the continent’s largest heroin-trafficking hubs, the series explores how the growing narcotics business draws different groups into a web of criminal activity and makes the situation increasingly complex.
Kaushal will play an honest and uncompromising police officer who leads a campaign against the drug trade. In carrying out his duties, he faces resistance not only from within his own department but also from powerful interests. His struggle to uphold his principles brings personal and moral challenges. Details of Basu’s and Jethwa’s characters have not yet been disclosed.
Basu has remained largely away from acting in recent years, focusing on her personal life and family. She married actor Karan Singh Grover in April 2016, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Devi, in November 2022. Since then, Basu has not appeared in another major acting project.
Her previous web series was Dangerous, released in 2020. Earlier, she attracted attention for playing dual roles in the horror film Alone, released in 2015.
Her return to the screen after an extended hiatus is likely to generate interest among fans. However, further details about the series, including its title, Basu’s role and release schedule, are awaited.
