The election for the executive committee for the 2025-2027 term of the Bangla Press Club Birmingham Midlands, an organisation of professional journalists working in mainstream Bengali print, electronic and online media in Birmingham and the Midlands, has been completed.

Zia Uddin Talukdar has been elected president, Mohammad Atikur Rahman general secretary, and Mohammad Mostafa Limon treasurer.

At the biennial election held on April 19 at MT Catering, the candidates for president and treasurer were elected unopposed. However, a contest was held for the general secretary position, in which Mohammad Atikur Rahman defeated his rival candidate Obaidul Kabir Khokon by a large margin of votes.

It has been announced that the full list of the newly elected executive committee will be published jointly by the president, general secretary and treasurer shortly.

Prior to this, the biennial general meeting of the organisation was held. Chaired by convener Mohammad Maruf and conducted by member secretary Ashraful Wahid Dulal, the meeting was attended by community leader Kabir Uddin and poet-journalist Shafiqur Rahman Shahjahan as election observers. Convener committee members Suhel Ahmed Chowdhury and Syed Nadir Ahmed were also present.

At the meeting, the newly formed committee pledged to further invigorate the organisation's activities. The leaders also expressed their determination to play an active role in representing professional journalists, improving standards and upholding dignity.
