Bishwanath Ghosh ruled out of FIFA ASEAN Cup
Defender Bishwanath Ghosh has been ruled out of the FIFA ASEAN Cup after suffering a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for three to four weeks.
The 27-year-old has already left the national team camp, dealing Bangladesh a major blow ahead of the tournament, scheduled to take place in Indonesia and Hong Kong from September 24 to October 5.
Bangladesh are due to travel to Indonesia on September 19.
A source close to the national team confirmed the injury on Monday (September 14).
Bishwanath previously spent nearly 18 months on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury during a friendly against Bhutan on September 3, 2024. He returned to international football in March this year against Vietnam and later featured against Singapore and San Marino.
His latest injury comes as Bangladesh are already managing several fitness concerns. Captain Jamal Bhuiyan has missed training in recent days with a muscle strain, while experienced defender Tapu Barman is undergoing recovery from a minor injury. Winger Faisal Ahmed Fahim is also carrying an injury.
