BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's assistant shot dead

Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, has been shot dead in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas district.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Doharia area adjacent to Jashore Road in Madhyamgram. According to witnesses, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, intercepted the car, and opened fire.

It is known that Chandranath was sitting in the front of the car. During the attack, Chandranath Rath was shot in the chest.

Party sources said Suvendu Adhikari is coming to visit the scene. Tension has spread in the area. Additional police, RAF and central forces have surrounded the area.

The BJP claims that three bullets hit Chandranath in the chest. He died due to excessive blood loss. He was returning to his flat in Madhyamgram from Kolkata. The bullet-riddled vehicle has been surrounded by police and central forces.

Critically injured, Rath was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Another person, whose identity is not yet confirmed, was also injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a nursing home.

Rath was returning to Madhyamgram from Kolkata in a Scorpio vehicle. When they reached the Jessore Road area, the assailants on a motorcycle surrounded the car and fired multiple rounds, with several bullets hitting Rath in the chest.

Tensions have run high in the area following the murder. Police, Rapid Action Force, and central forces have cordoned off the area, and the bullet-riddled vehicle has been seized.

Multiple BJP leaders and MLAs have arrived at both the hospital and the crime scene. Additional security has been deployed in the area to maintain order.
