BLACKPINK marks 10 years of global K-pop dominance

South Korean girl group BLACKPINK is celebrating a decade since its debut, marking 10 years of global success that has taken the quartet from K-pop newcomers to one of the biggest names in music and popular culture.

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa officially debuted on Aug. 8, 2016, with the singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah.”

To mark the milestone, the four members are set to meet a small group of fans in Seoul on Saturday (August 8). The venue has been kept secret, with only 40 selected fans expected to attend. It will be the first time in nearly a year that the four members appear together before fans in South Korea.

Their last joint appearance in the country came in July last year at a concert in Goyang, on the outskirts of Seoul, as part of their “Deadline” world tour.

Over the past decade, BLACKPINK has established a formidable presence in global music while extending its influence into fashion, luxury brands and advertising.

The group’s 2022 album “Born Pink” became a landmark release, making BLACKPINK the first female K-pop act to top the Billboard 200. The album also reached No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart.

In February this year, the group returned with “Deadline,” its third EP and first group project in more than three years. The release debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200.

BLACKPINK entered a new phase in December 2023, when the four members renewed their group activities with YG Entertainment but pursued their individual careers separately.

Jennie launched her own label, Odd Atelier; Lisa founded LLOUD; Jisoo established BLISSOO; while Rosé joined The Black Label.

The members have since expanded their individual profiles beyond the group.

Rosé achieved a major global hit with “APT.” alongside Bruno Mars, becoming the first K-pop artist to win Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Jennie strengthened her solo career with her debut album “Ruby,” while her collaboration with Tame Impala, “Dracula,” reached the Billboard Hot 100.

Jisoo has expanded into acting, while Lisa has also pursued a career on screen, appearing in HBO’s “The White Lotus.” She also performed at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A decade after their debut, BLACKPINK remain a defining force in K-pop, with their group success and individual careers continuing to shape the global reach of South Korean pop culture.
