BLACKPINK’s Lisa lights up MTV VMAs with ‘Sawakdika’ debut

BLACKPINK star Lisa brought her latest single ‘Sawakdika’ to the MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time, delivering a high-energy performance at the 2026 ceremony in Los Angeles on September 27.

Performing at the Peacock Theater, the Thai singer and rapper carried the boxing-inspired aesthetic of the song’s music video into her live set. She combined sharp choreography with the track’s rap-heavy sections and at one point performed atop a moving platform, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience.

‘Sawakdika’ also highlights Lisa’s rap-focused side and serves as the first preview of her upcoming EP, ‘Press Play’. The EP is scheduled for release on October 23 through LLOUD Co. and RCA Records. The track was produced by Thom Bridges and the production duo OZIVOLT.

Lisa’s VMA night was also marked by a major personal milestone as she won the Best Pop award for ‘Dream’. The star became visibly emotional while accepting the trophy, wiping away tears through much of her speech.

She also received nominations in categories including Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best K-Pop. In the Best K-Pop category, she competed against BLACKPINK, who were nominated for their 2025 single ‘Jump’.

Lisa’s packed schedule continues in the coming weeks. Her documentary ‘Always LALISA’ is set for worldwide release on October 12, followed by the release of ‘Press Play’ 11 days later.

Later this year, she is also scheduled to launch her ‘VIVA LALISA’ Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, with performances set for November 13, 14, 27 and 28.
