BNP opposes to RPO amendment, sends letter to CEC
BNP has opposed the proposed amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) that requires alliance partners to contest elections using their own party symbols.
The party conveyed its stance in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin during a meeting at the Election Commission office in Agargaon on Sunday (October 26).
BNP Chairperson’s adviser Ismail Jabiullah said the amendment undermines democratic rights and should be withdrawn, adding that no political party had proposed such a change.
The Election Commission recently finalised the amendment to RPO Article 20, mandating that candidates in electoral alliances must run under their respective party symbols.
