The BNP on Thursday (October 23) submitted a 36-point proposal to the Election Commission (EC), urging strong measures to ensure a free, fair, and credible national election.

The proposals were presented after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin at the EC office in Agargaon, led by BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan.

Dr Moyeen Khan said the party warned the EC against relying on those involved in the “controversial elections” of 2014, 2018, and 2024, stressing that such individuals should not be assigned election duties.

The proposals include reconstitution of the field administration, strict neutrality of the interim government and EC, early deployment of armed forces, removal of partisan officials, prevention of illegal arms and money flow, and the creation of complaint redress centers in every district and upazila.

BNP also called for ensuring equal opportunities for all parties, restoring confidence among voters, and guaranteeing transparent vote counting.

However, Dr Moyeen Khan later told reporters that no formal written proposal was submitted — despite his holding a document titled “Proposals for Ensuring Free and Fair Elections” during the meeting.

Advisory Council member Ismail Zabihullah and former EC secretary Dr Mohammad Zakaria were also present in the meeting.
