BNP sweeps all five seats in Sunamganj

BNP-nominated candidates have unofficially won all five parliamentary constituencies in Sunamganj district. No other party could mount a strong challenge against BNP in any seat. However, in most constituencies, the nearest rivals were Jamaat-e-Islami candidates.

In Sunamganj-1 (Dharmapasha-Midnagar-Tahirpur-Jamalganj) constituency, BNP candidate Kamruzzaman Kamrul received 1,64,261 votes from all 177 centres. His nearest rival, scale symbol candidate Maolana Upadhyaksha Tofayel Ahmed Khan, received 89,334 votes. Kamrul won by a margin of approximately 74,927 votes. The constituency has a total of 5,01,555 voters.

In Sunamganj-2, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury received 97,790 votes with the sheaf of paddy symbol. Scale symbol candidate Mohammad Shishir Monir received 57,858 votes. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury secured victory with a margin of 39,932 votes. The result was announced from his Facebook ID. Defeated candidate Shishir Monir also congratulated him on social media.

In Sunamganj-3, BNP candidate Mohammad Kaysar Ahmed was elected with 96,666 votes with the sheaf of paddy symbol. His nearest rival, BNP rebel candidate Anwar Hossain (lock symbol), received 41,984 votes. Kaysar Ahmed won by a margin of 54,682 votes.

In Sunamganj-4, BNP's Nurul Islam Nurul received 97,555 votes. Jamaat's Md Shams Uddin received 74,074 votes and independent candidate Dewan Zainul Zakerin received 18,911 votes. Nurul Islam Nurul was declared victorious in unofficial results.

In Sunamganj-5, sheaf of paddy candidate Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon received a total of 1,52,997 votes. Scale symbol candidate Abu Tahir Muhammad Abdus Salam received 99,928 votes. Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon was unofficially declared winner, leading by 53,069 votes across two upazilas—Chatak and Doarabazar.
