Body of Bangladeshi student Bristy to arrive in Dhaka Saturday
The body of Bangladeshi student Nahida Sultana Bristy, who was brutally killed in the United States, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Saturday (May 9), officials confirmed.
Ghulam Mortoza, press minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, said the body will be flown from Orlando International Airport on May 7 at 8:50pm via an Emirates flight to Dubai, before arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40am on May 9 on a connecting flight.
Embassy sources said the repatriation process is being coordinated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami is directly overseeing the arrangements.
Bristy, a doctoral student, had been missing since April 16 along with fellow Bangladeshi student Jamil Ahmed Limon from the University of South Florida. About 10 days later, on April 24, police recovered Limon’s body. He was pursuing a PhD in geography, environment and policy at the university.
On April 26, parts of Bristy’s body were recovered from a water body near I-275 and Fourth Street North in Florida.
According to investigators, the suspect in the double murder, Hisham Saleh Abugharbiyah, 26, has been arrested by Florida police and charged with first-degree premeditated murder. Under Florida law, the charge carries the possibility of the death penalty if proven in court.
The case is currently under trial.
