Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team have become the first nation to officially announce their squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, unveiling a 26-member roster blending experience and youth ahead of the global tournament.

Head coach Sergej Barbarez named his final squad on Monday (May 11), marking Bosnia’s return to the World Cup stage for only the second time in history after their debut appearance at the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

The biggest headline from the squad announcement is the inclusion of veteran striker Edin Džeko. Despite turning 40, the former captain remains a key figure in Bosnia’s attacking plans and has retained the trust of the coaching staff.

In contrast, 21-year-old attacking midfielder Ermin Mahmic earned his maiden national team call-up, representing the new generation of Bosnian talent. The Austria-born footballer recently received FIFA approval to represent Bosnia earlier this month.

Before beginning their World Cup campaign, Bosnia will play two international friendlies — against North Macedonia national football team in Sarajevo on May 29 and against Panama national football team in St. Louis, USA.

Bosnia will kick off their World Cup journey on June 12 in Toronto against the hosts Canada national football team.

The squad also features experienced names such as Sead Kolašinac, Amar Dedić, Benjamin Tahirović and forward Ermedin Demirović.

With a balanced mix of seasoned campaigners and emerging talents, Bosnia now turn their focus toward making a stronger impact on football’s biggest stage.
